Motherwell Maternity Fitness Instructor Training Courses and Licensure

MOTHERWELL is now offering several pre- and post-natal fitness trainer education and fitness business programs through a comprehensive home study system. Learn the essentials of exercising during and after pregnancy.

Learning Format: Home Study
Time Limit: None (3-6 weeks on average)

Maternity Fitness Training Program and CertificationMotherwell Professional Instructor - Level I Land Course (Includes Low-impact Aerobics, weight training, Pilates and core conditioning on fitness balls)

Behavioral Objectives

At the completion of this Instructor Training Program, the Professional will be able to:

1. Describe maternal adaptations to pregnancy and postpartum.
2. Explain how pregnancy affects the woman’s ability to exercise.
3. Discuss up-to-date research on exercise in pregnancy.
4. Name ACOG safety guidelines for exercise in pregnancy.
5. Discuss benefits of maternal exercise for both the mother and the fetus.
6. Identify symptoms of over-training in both the mother and the fetus.
7. Describe principles of basic exercise physiology and kinesiology.
8. Explain common discomforts of pregnancy and recommend exercises for relief of symptoms.
9. Recommend safe exercise and sports activities to new moms and moms-to-be.
10. Demonstrate ability to teach selected exercises.
11. Develop a sound curriculum for teaching a maternity
health & fitness program to women in all stages of
pregnancy and postpartum.
12. Design appropriate exercises for clients in the personal
training setting.
13. Describe effective promotional strategies.
14. Discuss risk management issues when teaching
pregnant women exercise.

MOTHERWELL Water Fitness Course

Behavioral Objectives

At the completion of the MOTHERWELL Water Fitness Instructor Training, the Professional will be able to:

1. Describe maternal adaptations to pregnancy and postpartum.
2. Explain how pregnancy affects the woman’s ability to exercise.
3. Discuss up-to-date research on exercise in pregnancy.
4. Name ACOG safety guidelines for exercise in pregnancy.
5. Discuss benefits of maternal exercise for both the mother and the fetus.
6. Identify symptoms of over-training in both the mother and the fetus.
7. Describe principles of basic exercise physiology and kinesiology.
8. Explain common discomforts of pregnancy and recommend exercises for relief of symptoms.
9. Recommend safe exercise and sports activities to new moms and moms-to-be.
10. Demonstrate ability to teach selected water fitness exercises.
11. Compare the differences and similarities of exercising in water verses land.
12. Describe physiological responses to exercising in water.
13. Discuss research on exercising in water for the general population.
14. Discuss the benefits of exercising in water for expectant and new mothers.
15. Explain physical laws applied to water.
16. Identify safety considerations for exercising in water.
17. Develop a sound curriculum for teaching a maternity water fitness program to women in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum
18. Describe sound administrative and proven marketing techniques for promoting maternity fitness classes.

11. Identify benefits of practicing Hatha Yoga before, during and after
pregnancy.
12. Explain anatomy and physiology of Hatha yoga.
13. Demonstrate selected yoga poses for pregnancy, labor and after
delivery.
14. Develop a curriculum for teaching MOTHERWELL Yoga classes to
women in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum.
15. Integrate effective breathing and relaxation techniques.
16. Demonstrate Hatha yoga poses for relieving common discomforts
during the childbearing year.
17. Describe sound administrative and proven marketing techniques
for promoting maternity fitness classes.
18. Demonstrate positive teaching techniques.
19. Discuss risk management issues for teaching a safe prenatal yoga
class.

MOTHERWELL Professional Instructor (MPI) Level II Course – Trainer

What You Receive

• Rights to train additional MOTHERWELL Professional Instructors as needed by your facility in any program(s) Instructor is officially certified.
• Extensive assortment of recruiting, training and monitoring tools for quality control.
• New Instructor Training Kit needed by each trainee.
• A proven system for providing program continuity at your facility.
• Leadership Study Guide and Learning Module with required assignments.

Training Requirements

• Complete all assignments in Leadership Study Guide and Learning Module.
• Send in a videotape of teaching a MOTHERWELL Program or visit MOTHERWELL Headquarters for additional training and evaluation.

Level II Course and licensing fee = $225. (In addition to Level I Certification)
Renewal fee = $25 in addition to MOTHERWELL Professional
Instructor Renewal.
New Instructor Training Kit (one for each trainee) = $160.
Yearly renewal per instructor = $75.

Ms. Berk is available as a consultant on all aspects of wellness and mind/body fitness programming, training, as well as business development. Her marketing and public relations skills have gained her and her programs extensive coverage on national TV, Radio, and Print media.

Ms. Berk won a Small Business Administration Award for "The Woman in Business Most Likely to Succeed", and was awarded membership in the Sterling's Who's Who Directory, Executive Edition for excellence and leadership in her chosen field of endeavor. She produced two award-winning videos and recently published her book: Motherwell Maternity Fitness Plan, through Human Kinetics, Inc.
